Yesterday was my last day volunteering at Stowe Landscape Gardens. While I said goodbye to all the staff and volunteers and bid them farewell with a freshly baked apple cake, I suspect I will return at some point in the future. The team that I worked with were warm and welcoming and always willing to share their knowledge and expertise and for that I am very grateful. It was Stowe that helped me to decide the next chapter of my working life and the people working there that gave me the confidence and ability to set up my own gardening business.
I cannot recommend the notion of volunteering enough. If you would like to change direction in what you do on a day-to-day basis and perhaps are at a loss as to what you would prefer to do, seek out voluntary work in subjects that interest you. It is surprising the doors that open as a result of this.
