Having visited the plant fair in Great Brickhill I was inspired to attempt a small stand of my own a few weeks later in the neighbouring village of Stoke Hammond. While I did not intend to compete with the nurseries that attend these events regularly I embarked on offering a completed product rather than just plants. The idea was to source unusual containers and pot them up with assorted flowers. The primary focus was to hand out business flyers and chat to people who may be interested in garden services. The weather was such that the fair was not particularly well attended and also due to the fact that this was only the second year the village had held the fair. That said I sold a few items and handed out plenty of leaflets. Just an example of how stepping out of your comfort zone can reap rewards as I received a call today from a prospective customer who obtained my details through the fair. Best get potting up in preparation for the next one!
